on top nintendo switch subreddit There was also some chatter about the control setup, but others were happy to see the return of the iconic shooter:
BBQQA – “I’m still stunned this happened. For years me and my friends would complain that we’d never see it with a modern release, that it would be stuck in IP rights hell. But somehow it happened. I don’t. I don’t. Don’t think the younger generation really understands the impact of this game, or how unlikely it is on Switch and Xbox. It’s crazy.”
Odie_Odie – “I still play Goldeneye almost annually on my N64, playing it for a few hours on the weekend before saving my system again, and I have to say, the controls aren’t that bad. It’s just like the original. I think a lot of people realize that they’re the controls. Because goldeneye don’t like it. They’re always there, lol.”
MillwrightWF – “…just a disclaimer here as a millennial so 007 was a huge part of growing up. First I let my Fortnite obsessed son play and then it was my style after he absolutely destroyed me in Fortnite. He built and thing so he gets me. Haha there is no building in this game and I took him out several times. But once he got control he wanted to keep playing! It looks pretty good. Not the mess I was expecting. “No from the original. No slowing down. Looking forward to getting some more time tomorrow.”
And here’s what’s on our sister website Community PureXbox About the Xbox version of the game:
GameCube – “As a veteran of the original game from before, this version plays better than ever. The Xbox’s modern control scheme brings it kicking and screaming into the present. I briefly tried the Switch version with the original control layout. And it’s clearly better than an actual N64 controller. Will benefit. Xbox version played great with twin thumb sticks.”
bucky – “Played through the Agent difficulty campaign on Switch last night and this morning. Just tried a few levels on Xbox and thought it felt better on Switch, though it needed a little button remapping”
The sugar school – “I love it but can’t deny the nostalgia factor (and power). Still fun after all these years.”
Techno92LFC – “No doubt I would have loved to see the Xbox Live Arcade version with other people so don’t understand why we don’t have it, maybe someone here knows? But, it’s amazing to see it on an Xbox console with updated controls.”
